A Lenten Message from Archbishop Comensoli
As we begin the Season of Lent, Archbishop Peter A Comensoli reminds us that despite these challenging times, it is Jesus, and only Jesus, who offers a pathway to true freedom—one of humility and self-giving—as won for us on the Cross.
Pope Francis declares Year of St Joseph
On the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church, Pope Francis declared a “Year of Saint Joseph” from 8 December 2020 to 8 December 2021. During this year of the pandemic, Archbishop Peter A Comensoli has entrusted the Archdiocese of Melbourne under the watchful protection of St Joseph, whom Pope Francis describes in his new Apostolic Letter entitled Patris corde (“With a Father’s Heart”), as a tender and loving father, who was 'creatively courageous' while being a 'father in the shadows'.

A Thought for a Quiet Moment...
“So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me.”
— John 6:53–57

Take A Spiritual Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
Triduum: A Spiritual Pilgrimage is a beautiful, 30 minute contemplative documentary. This film cinematically walks through the locations of the Holy Week story, re-presenting the most important days of human history. Immersed in the real and sacred places of the Holy Land, the pilgrim faithful is brought tangibly nearer to the story, the landscape, and the reality of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Triduum draws Catholics and those with open hearts and minds to experience a deeper understanding of these events and places, and offers rich meditations for the pilgrimage of daily life. Now more than ever, as many of us are confined to our homes, journey along this spiritual pilgrimage and be drawn more deeply into the life and love of God.
Spiritual Communion
It is important to remain close to our Eucharistic Lord during this time. You can make a spiritual Communion uniting yourself to a Mass being celebrated anywhere in the world.
The following prayer can be used.
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, And I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, Come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there And unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
The Quarantined Catholic Hub
We’re all feeling an absence. What can we do if we’re unable to attend Mass and receive the Eucharist? Remember, Jesus is still present in His Church—in tabernacles, with His priests, and, in a very real and powerful way, in Scripture.
This is an opportunity for great spiritual growth. Take advantage of this time to increase your devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, explore the richness of Sacred Scripture, and deepen your understanding of the faith. On this page, you’ll find all the resources you need to continue growing with the Lord no matter where you are.
